When iPhone is not detected in Windows 10, it will also not show up in File Explorer and also on the Device Manager menu as well.

How to Fix Windows 10 Not Recognizing iPhone

Well, I recently upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 and also found that iTunes no longer detected my Apple iPad or iPhone. Let’s take a look at how I fixed it.

Method 1

  • First, make sure that the latest version of iTunes is installed.
  • Now plug your Apple device into a USB port on your computer via the included USB cable.
  • Make sure your device is on the Home screen. If there is any prompt in order to “Trust“, choose to trust the device.
  • In Windows, just choose “Start“, then type “Control Panel“.
  • Now choose “Control Panel” in the list of items in order to open.
  • Then choose “Devices and Printers“.
  • Your iPhone or iPad should actually display in the “Unspecified” section. Right-tap on it and choose “Properties“.


If you guys do not see your device listed here. Then make sure you have selected to trust the PC on the device and you are using a supported cable as well.

  • Choose the “Hardware” tab, then tap on the “Properties” button.
  • Well, from the “General” tab, you have to choose the “Change settings” button.
  • Now choose the “Driver” tab, and then select “Update Driver“.
  • Select “Browse my computer for driver software“.
  • Then you need to choose “Browse…” and then navigate to “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers“. If you guys do not have this folder, then you can check-in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers“. If you still don’t see it, then try to uninstall and reinstall iTunes.

Note: because a few of you have messaged me that you still do not see this folder. I have also zipped up the files and made them available for download here. Unzip the folder somewhere, then point Windows to the files actually.

  • Tap on “Next” > “Close.

Make sure Services are Running

  • Choose the “Start” button, type “services.msc“, then tap on “Enter“.
  • Make sure you set the following services to start automatically and are starting:
    • iPod Service
    • Apple Mobile Device Service
    • Bonjour Service

Set the Apple Services to Start Automatically

YOu have to follow the steps below to make sure that Apple Services are running. And you set it to start automatically on your PC.

  • Right-tap on the Start button and tap on Run.
  • Now in the Run Command window, you have to type and click on OK.

  • On the Services screen, just make sure that Apple Mobile Device Service, Bonjour Service, and iPod Service are running. And they are set to start automatically on your computer as well.

Well, if Apple Services are not set to start automatically, double-tap on the Service > on the next screen. You have to change the Startup type to Automatic and Start the service (in case it is not running).

  • Tap on OK in order to save the settings and close the screen.
