  • Delete the message from the recipient’s Inbox.
  • Replace the original message along with a new one.

The ability in order to retrieve email is only available for Microsoft Exchange email accounts and Office 365 users. Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019 is supported as well.

Well, some other email clients give the same feature too, though it may be called differently. Such as, Gmail has the Undo Send option. Unlike Microsoft Outlook, Google Gmail is not recalling a message, however, instead of delaying its sending within a very short time period actually.

How to Recall Message in Outlook 2016

Well, you can recall your email message in Microsoft Outlook 2019 or 2016 if you guys have sent out a message. That you would like to have a second chance at sending as well. Perform these steps as instantly as possible after the email message has sent to make sure the best results.

This option will only work for recipients who basically are using Outlook or other compatible email clients. The recall is only available on Windows clients actually. Outlook 2016 for Mac does not really support a recall option.

  • First, you have to open the “Sent Mail” folder or another folder where your sent items are saved.
  • Then open the message (double-click to open in a new window).
  • Choose the “Actions” option in the “Move” section of the “Message” tab as well.
  • Then choose “Recall This Message…
  • Select if you guys want to “Delete unread copies of this message” or also “Delete unread copies and replace with a new message“. You can also check the “Tell me if recall succeeds or fails for the recipient.” box. If in case, you want to receive an email that tells you if the message was recalled or not.

  • Then choose “OK“.

An attempt will then made in order to recall the message from each recipient. If the recipient has read the message already, then the message will not be recalled. If the recipient has not read the message, then it will be recalled actually.
