How to Root Moto Z2 Force and Install TWRP

NOTE: Well, only the T-Mobile and Sprint model of Moto Z2 Force can also be rooted right now. Furthermore, the August security patch update should also be installed on the device as well.

Root Moto Z2 Force using Magisk

  • Well, first of unlock bootloader of your Moto Z2 Force through the guide linked.
  • You have to download patched Boot image file:
  • Now connect your phone to PC along with a USB cable.
  • Just open a command window on PC in the folder where you b guys have the boot image file (from step 2) on your PC. For this, you need to go to that folder, and then in the address bar, just type cmd and click enter key. A command window will then open, whose folder location will be where you guys have the downloaded boot image file as well.
  • Along with device connected to PC, reboot it to bootloader/fastboot mode through issuing the following command:
adb reboot bootloader

└ You now have to check your phone’s screen, if it asks for “Allow USB debugging”, accept it thjrough choosing OK/Yes.

  • Then we install TWRP recovery throuhg issuing the following command.
fastboot flash boot <filename with .img extesion>

So, if you guys have the T-Mobile variant, then the command will be: fastboot flash boot T-Mobile_z2_force_Magisk_August.img. However, if it’s the Sprint Z2 Force in your hand, then the command will also be fastboot flash boot sprint_z2_force_Magisk_August.img as well

  • Now you have to restart your device with this command
fastboot reboot
  • Whenever your Z2 Force turns on, then just download Magisk Manager APK on your device. (Transfer it to phone if you download it on your computer.)
  • Install the Magisk app through any file manager app, and then run it in order to gain root access.
