How To Turn On Email Read Receipt In Outlook

Turn On Email Read Receipt

Here are the following ways to enable email read receipt:

  • Request Receipts While Sending Single Text
  • By Default Request Receipts On All Sent Emails
  • Receipt on Received Messages

Request Receipts While Sending Single Text

With this option, a request sent for a read receipt with a single text that is sent using your Outlook client.

Step 1:

While writing your text message, choose the “Options” tab.

Step 2:

At the bottom of the “Tracking” section, choose the checkbox for one or both of the following:

  • Request delivery receipt for this text
  • Request read receipt for this text

By Default Request Receipts On All Sent Emails

Step 1:

Head over the main Outlook screen, then choose the “File” > “Options“.

Step 2:

Select the “Mail” in the left pane.

Step 3:

Move down to the “Tracking” section.

Step 4:

Then choose the “Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient’s e-mail server” and/or “Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message” as required.

Now after you send the message, you will get a receipt if the email is delivered or read.

Also, you can tell Outlook what action to take on email when the sender sends you a request:

Step 1:

Head over to the main Outlook screen, then choose “File” > “Options“.

Step 2:

Now select “Mail” in the left pane.

Step 3:

Move down to the “Tracking” section.

Step 4:

Select a selection at the bottom of the “For any message received that includes a read-receipt request

Remember that read receipts or delivery can be disabled by the recipient or administrator of the email server on the recipient end. This is not a fool-proof method to check if the email was delivered or received. But it is quite handy in some situations.
